Marcela Václavíková  THAT WHAT PAINTS

After graduating from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, where she studied in the painting studio of Prof. Radomír Kolář and Prof. Jiří Sopek, she devotes herself to free creation, where painting expression has priority. In every creative period, from early works to the present, one can trace a great and sincere fascination with nature, landscape and the symbol of the animal. She is often referred to as She Who Paints Horses, although on closer inspection one should already write landscape, where all those horses belong. Paradoxically, in the present work, this motif is loosened into a natural scenery where we feel an effort to express harmony, order and peace. In the mountain forests intersected by wild streams, in the rocks and ravines, we can only glimpse the life of animals and the presence of man. A hint that has never been spoken before and is all the more disturbing. The mountain landscape is a challenge for the author, which she considers her main theme, also because the Jeseníky Mountains have become her home.

And so THAT WHAT SHE PAINTS , paints with a sincere fascination for everything that surrounds her. The evolution of her expression has moved from the initial simplistic character and symbolic colouring to a more realistic expression in which humility before the magnificence of the mountain theatre with its raw natural laws and the hunt for eternal trophies is evident..... It is not only in the mountain landscapes that a relaxed and expressive handwriting and an almost graphic draughtsmanship is evident, a characteristic feature that may have been influenced by his study of printmaking with Prof. Dalibor Chatrný at the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Brno. What flashes in the painting remains evident in the drawing and also in the illustrations. THAT WHAT

HE PAINTS is represented by her paintings in the permanent collections of the National Gallery in Prague, the Trade Fair Palace and private collections in the Czech Republic and abroad.

EXHIBITION SECTION

the beauty of wood captured in time

We invite you to a permanent exhibition of wood titled NECKLACE, a celebration of the hidden stories that wood tells through its colours, lines and shapes. What normally ends up as fuel or waste has been transformed into a unique collection of natural images thanks to the eye and work of the artist.

Behind every piece on display is a moment of felling - the sound of a chainsaw, the fall of a tree and the surprise of what colours and textures show up in the cut. Monty Václav Kappel, who has been involved in hazardous felling for years, has started collecting interesting cuttings from various trees. He was often fascinated by the ephemeral beauty of fresh cuts - pinks, purples, deep reds - which quickly turn to shades of brown. To capture this transformation, he began to sand the wood while it was still wet and then photograph it. The result is a unique set of images transferred onto photo canvases that capture irreversible moments - the kind you would never see in nature again.

The exhibition is not a textbook on trees. On the contrary - it purposefully shows pieces that bear traces of fungal diseases, growth deformations or even human intervention. It is in these imperfections that the author finds uniqueness and beauty. Come and see the wood in a different way - as a gallery of natural prints that are created in the silence of the forest, but hide the power and story of the tree's life.
